Who writes this site
Every page on Heft & Hush is written by Ryder M., the owner of Magoo Media Group. There is no editorial team, no contributor network and no staff byline. One named person is accountable for every claim on the site.
No content on this site is written by, commissioned by, or approved by a brand or a retailer.
Independence
- No paid placement. No brand can pay to appear on this site, to rank higher in a roundup, or to be described in particular terms. No such offer has been accepted and none will be.
- No pre-approval. No manufacturer sees a page before it publishes or has any right of review over what it says.
- Affiliate relationships do not affect ranking. Every product link on this site is an Amazon affiliate link, which means the commission is broadly similar whichever product you buy - so there is no financial reason to rank one above another. Where a brand-direct link is used, it is because it serves the reader, and it earns nothing.
- Buyer-first ordering. If the cheap option is genuinely sufficient, it goes first. The cheapest product is the top recommendation on several pages here, which is the only real evidence anyone can offer for this claim.
Accuracy standards
- Specifications are attributed. Where a number appears, it comes from the manufacturer or from named public reporting, and the page says which.
- No invented citations. Every study referenced on this site has been located and linked. No “research suggests” standing in for a source we do not have.
- Other publications’ measurements are credited to them. Where a site has done instrumented testing we have not, we name them and link to the measurement. It is theirs.
- No fabricated data. No invented prices, ratings, review counts, scores or awards. There are no star ratings on this site at all.
- No claimed experience we do not have. No “we tested”, no “after three weeks”, no “it felt”. The methodology page states the limit explicitly.
Correction policy
If something here is wrong, we fix it. A factual correction is made as soon as it is confirmed, the last-updated date changes, and where the correction is material it is noted at the foot of the page so the change is visible rather than silent.
The last-updated date changes only when the content actually changed. Re-dating a page without editing it is a manipulation signal and we do not do it.
Report an error to contact@heftandhush.com. It gets dealt with before anything else in the inbox.
Product availability
A roundup recommending a discontinued product is worse than no roundup. Availability is checked on the schedule set out in how we choose - quarterly for roundups and model reviews - and off-cycle whenever a reader tells us something has gone.
Because this site has no live price or stock feed, links point at tagged Amazon search results rather than at a single product listing. That is deliberate: a search link cannot go dead the way a direct listing can.
What this site will not cover
Sleep sits next to health, so the boundary is explicit and it is visible on the pages themselves. We will not:
- Diagnose anything, or help anyone diagnose themselves
- Give advice on managing a medical condition - sleep apnea, clinical insomnia, restless legs, or anything else
- Recommend, compare or discuss dosing of any drug or supplement, including melatonin and over-the-counter sleep aids
- Recommend CPAP equipment, mouth guards or any medical device
- Claim any product treats, prevents or cures anything
- Suggest that gear substitutes for medical care
Every problem guide on this site carries a section saying plainly when the issue is not a gear problem. That section is not a disclaimer - it is the most important paragraph on those pages.
On how this is written
Pages are researched and drafted with the help of software, and every claim, specification and citation on them is checked by a person before it publishes. The accuracy standards above apply regardless of how a draft was produced, and responsibility for what appears here sits with the named author.
