About Heft & Hush

One person, four categories of sleep gear, and a rule about never claiming to have tested something we have not.

Who writes this

My name is Ryder M. I am the hands-on owner behind Magoo Media Group, and I research and write every page on this site myself. There is no editorial team here, no panel of experts, and no staff byline - one person writes it, and that person is accountable for it.

I am not a doctor, a sleep scientist, or a certified anything. I do not have a laboratory and I do not have a license. If a page on this site ever implies otherwise, that is an error and I would like to hear about it.

What Heft & Hush is

A review site covering four categories of sleep gear: weighted blankets, white noise and sound machines, sunrise alarm clocks, and sleep masks. That is a deliberately narrow remit. Most sites in this space also cover mattresses, sleep trackers, supplements and general wellness, and the depth suffers for it.

The structural difference is that this site is organized by the problem rather than by the product. That is what the Can’t Sleep section is for: you arrive knowing that you woke at 3am again, not knowing that you need a bead-free knit blanket at fifteen pounds.

Who it is for

Someone who has a specific problem and wants it solved. Not a spec enthusiast, not someone building a collection. Every page is written to get you to the right purchase - or away from a purchase entirely - as quickly as possible, which is why several of them exist mainly to talk people out of buying things.

How the picks are made, exactly

This is the part most review sites are vague about, so here it is plainly.

Selection here is research-based, not hands-on. I define the problem a category solves, gather the products currently on sale that address it, compare the published specifications that actually change the outcome, shortlist, and then state who each product is wrong for. I do not run a laboratory, I have not measured these products with any instrument, and I do not claim to have slept with them.

That is a narrower claim than “expert tested”, and it is a checkable one. Where another publication has done real instrumented testing and it is relevant, I credit them by name and link to their measurement, because it is theirs and not mine.

The full methodology, including what disqualifies a product.

What you will not find here

  • Star ratings or scores out of ten. I have not tested these products, so a score would be a number invented to look authoritative.
  • Prices. There is no live price feed on this site yet, so every buy button reads “Check price on Amazon”. A stale price is worse than no price.
  • Testimonials or reviews. This is a new site with no readers to quote. Inventing some would be the fastest way to deserve none.
  • Medical advice. No diagnosis, no condition management, no supplements or sleep aids. Sleep gear addresses light, noise, temperature and comfort - and nothing beyond that.
  • First-person testing claims. No “after three weeks with”, no “it felt”, no “in our tests”.

How this site makes money

Affiliate commission. When you buy through a link here, this site earns a small commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Commission does not change which products get recommended or what order they appear in. I would rather tell you the eighteen-dollar earplugs are enough and earn eighty cents than sell you a three-hundred-dollar machine that does not solve your problem, because the second one only works once. The full disclosure is here.

The publisher

Heft & Hush is published by Magoo Media Group, which is mine. That is the only other site linked from here.

Corrections

If something on this site is wrong - a discontinued product, a specification that has changed, a claim that does not hold up - tell me and I will fix it and note the change. That is the single most useful email you can send.
